Safer Construction Traffic Management

Going that step further to improve safety outwith the confines of the site itself – have you heard of “CLOCS“?

If not then a visit to the website for more information will prove interesting – www.clocs.org.uk

CLOCS is a national Standard that requires all stakeholders in construction to take responsibility for health & safety beyond the hoardings. It demands collaborative action to prevent fatal or serious collisions between vehicles servicing construction projects and vulnerable road users; pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.

The CLOCS Standard requires action from clients, principal contractors and vehicle operators and harnesses the power of policy-makers to minimise the impact of construction projects and eliminate harm to communities.

Clients/principal contractors: Take ownership of road safety in supply chains

  • Construction Logistics Plan
  • Site suitability
  • Site access and egress
  • Loading/unloading
  • Traffic routing
  • Control of site traffic
  • Supply chain compliance

Scotland to increase high rise safety legislation in wake of Grenfell

Scottish Construction Now reported today that Scotland is to increase high rise safety legislation next year in the wake of Grenfell.

The inclusion of sound alerts for evacuation in high rise buildings and extending the mandatory installation of sprinklers in new flats are among a raft of new safety measures to be introduced next year in Scotland.

Also, the new building standards legislation will also reduce the height from 18m to 11m and extend the range of new buildings for the use of non-combustible cladding.

A busy month for Keenan CDM

Well time certainly flies and it’s been a busy first month with the highlights being:

  • Achieving Constructionline Acclaim H&S Accreditation for CDM Principal Designer services
  • Securing Principal Designer appointments on two residential new build projects in Edinburgh (77 flats for an existing client and 7 flats for a new client)
  • Asked to join team bids for some very exciting new projects throughout Scotland
  • Moving to Aviemore where my dual aspect office windows to woods and mountains certainly beat the urban views of Edinburgh’s West End
  • Seeking new opportunities to serve not only the Lothians, Central and Fife but also Tayside, Grampian and Highland areas of Scotland
  • The regular trips up and down the A9! Odd one you may think, but the ‘highlight’ is going ‘home’ to Aviemore after day of site visits or meetings rather than only going up at weekends as a tourist, plus the roadside views are amazing as road trips go
  • Last but certainly not least, the fantastic support and opportunities from my network of business contacts which is greatly appreciated

All in all it has been a very encouraging first month and I’m looking forward to the new opportunities, projects and challenges ahead.

Keenan CDM achieves Acclaim (SSIP) Health & Safety Accreditation

Keenan CDM achieves Acclaim (SSIP) Health & Safety Accreditation

I’m pleased to announce that Anthony Keenan has achieved independent Acclaim (SSIP) Health & Safety Accreditation for the Keenan CDM Principal Designer service (Constructionline Reg 00388256).

This Acclaim Accreditation has been achieved via independent assessment and enables Keenan CDM to demonstrate compliance with health and safety legislation – in this instance, compliance with the CDM Regulations for the provision of Principal Designer services.

This demonstrates the Keenan CDM commitment to providing a comprehensive service via documented processes in line with the CDM Regulations requirements.
